Unreal City: episode 1

The only means of transport which will bring you to the unreal city –from where you are coming from- is the aeroplane. After an 18 hour flight the stewardess will wake you on the speaker and you will open your eyes and look out the window and see a seemingly infinite plane of green. For half an hour or so as the aeroplane descends you will scan the fields for roads or baseball diamonds or parking lots full of yellow school busses, but you will see none for you are far from home. The aeroplane will touch down after you have been informed of the local time and temperature (and surely some improvised greeting in various languages) on a long airstrip that was planted right there among the fields. You will be surprised to hear the local passengers burst into applause. What is this? Well, a gentleman has just landed an aircraft safely after flying the length of the globe over oceans and jungles and deserts, countless cities and villages, tropics and storms. You will admit that though routine, it is a feat worthy of applause. At the airport, after passing customs, a driver will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. I will be waiting for you there.
